Reflection

Today, we did an exercise on 'Perception' where several activities were performed in small groups inside the section. The approach was to alter our perception, and to visualize simple shapes outside of its basic form in as many different ways as possible.

The activity had two parts, the 'Warm-up' and the 'Main' activity. As a team we had to come up with 12-15 varied ways of perceiving a simple shape assigned to us under a fixed time.

The challenges I faced with the task on individual terms, was in visualizing the other ways in which we could view these simple shapes. Not just through 2d sketches but by using geometric and other 3d objects as well.

Along with associating the original shape to objects in our surroundings, exploring the potential geometric shapes that could have been perceived from the original might have taken us further. Though finding a balance will take effort, I learned that being less restricted by the original form could have worked better in perceiving the shape in varied ways.

In terms of team work, I am not much of a speaker and when there is no discourse to begin with in a group I struggle to voice my own thoughts. In retrospect, being more vocal with my ideas could have led to better exchange and more findings in the group during this activity.

To end on a positive note, I was happy to see all the members collaborating in the activity, each sharing their ideas through rough sketches. They all differed in their ways of perceiving the same object, making it interesting to hear about/see their points of view.

Learning Mantra of the day-- “Explore and let yourself be more unrestrictive with your ideas”
